“Blue Beetle,” based on the DC character Jaime Reyes, brings a deadly addition to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Why deadly? Because it is the penultimate film of the now dead DCEU. Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto and written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the film stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, a recent college graduate who undergoes a life-altering transformation when an ancient alien relic called the Scarab bonds that grant him extraordinary superpowers.
Released on August 18 by Warner Bros. Pictures, “Blue Beetle” received generally mixed reviews from critics. However, despite the positive reception, the film faced challenges at the box office, grossing $129 million worldwide against a production budget ranging from $104 to $125 million. It became the lowest-grossing film in the DCEU.
Despite its struggles in theatres, “Blue Beetle” found redemption and decent success on the streaming service Max after its November premiere, quickly rising to become the number one streaming movie among U.S. audiences. But, it was inevitable as all DC fans pounced on the film in the holiday season.
The cast, led by Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, includes Adriana Barraza as Jaime’s grandmother, Damián Alcázar as his father Alberto Reyes, and Susan Sarandon as the ambitious Victoria Kord, CEO of Kord Industries. The film’s narrative weaves family dynamics, love interests, and the pursuit of power seamlessly into the superhero genre.
Anyways, if you are a fan of the DCEU, then all you need to wait for is January 18th as Blue Beetle will drop on JioCinema then. Due to some reasons, JioCinema is always late in bringing foreign titles but finally Blue Beetle is on the way.
