In terms of its box office, it proved that not all Beetles can fly high. However, as it crawls its way to the streaming platform, DC fans are feeling the festive season.
Blue Beetle was indeed a bold move for the DC universe, especially considering the timing. As they planned to wipe their slates clean, a movie like Blue Beetle should have had a better release window.
Critics have positive regards for the movie, but the lack of audience made it the worst-performing film in terms of the DCEU box office. Though it didn’t have a bad start (Blue Beetle dethroned the almighty Barbie to claim the top spot in the box office), it was far from being profitable.
The film, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, focuses on Xolo Maridueña’s character, Jaime Reyes. Jaime becomes the superhero Blue Beetle after bonding with an ancient alien relic. The movie also makes history with its predominantly Latino cast, featuring Bruna Marquezine, George Lopez, Raoul Max Trujillo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, Belissa Escobedo, and the legendary Susan Sarandon. The Latino cast indeed helps to maintain the essence of the original source material.
Blue Beetle also marks the penultimate film of the franchise and will be followed by Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The film will be streaming on Max from November 17th. In terms of streaming in India, JioCinema will have the responsibility.
