Madame Web, we’ve written enough about Sony’s Spiderman fantasy, and it was meant to fail, at least in the current market. But it’s Bob Marley, the man who has been constantly winning over the hearts of fans, now conquering the box office.
Though it was expected that the film would do well, the expectations were around $30M for the whole week, but the film managed to exceed the numbers.
This week, the pinnacle is now occupied by “One Love,” the Bob Marley biopic, managing to gross $27.7M over the weekend and from the 14th of February, capturing around $51M. The projection was around $30M-$35M between Valentine’s Day and President’s Day.
“One Love” also managed to be critically praised, receiving an “A” CinemaScore. Though on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, the ratings stumbled, the overall experience on social media is strong.
“One Love” also managed to get a strong reaction from the global audience, showcasing that music transcends borders and politics. Managing to gross $29M from the global audience, it grossed $80M in total from both markets.
In terms of the second-place holder, “Madame Web” captured the second place, managing to disappoint. It grossed $17.6M during the traditional weekend and $25.8M in the six-day period. The film also grossed $25.7M from the international market, making the numbers respectable for an $80M film. But in a concerning way, “Morbius” managed to have a better debut.
“Argylle” continues its abysmal run, grossing just $4.72M, miles away from the previous two contenders but manages to hold a place on the podium. Apple’s $200M investments are definitely failing financially, one after the other, as “Argylle” is far from reaching half the expenditure.
“Migration” has no intention to move from the top 10, despite nine weeks of theatrical run, still managing to gross $3.75M. Universal somehow cracked the code for animation; this one also grossed the $200M mark.
Timothee Chalamet’s “Wonka” continued its box office reign, ranking fifth for the 10th consecutive weekend. The Warner Bros. flick grossed $3.49M over the weekend and $4.4M on President’s Day, amassing $210M in North America and $604M worldwide from its $125M budget.
“The Chosen” grossed $3.5M over the weekend and $4.1M by Monday. Fathom Events premiered Season 4 exclusively in theaters, featuring episodes four through six for two weeks. Sales declined from episodes one through three, which garnered $6M initially and $14M overall. Episodes seven and eight will screen later this month.
