Borderlands has only been in cinemas for a little more than a week, but it already has a digital release date, and that date is approaching quickly. At home, audiences will be able to watch the movie starting on August 30. It’s unclear at this point whether Lionsgate always intended for this to happen or whether the move had anything to do with the movie’s box office performance.
It hasn’t taken long for Borderlands to become a critical and financial bust. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie started with an absurdly low score of 0%, but it has now increased to 10%. Although a film’s box office earnings do not usually correspond with critical reviews, Borderlands generated a total of just $16.5 million in its first weekend worldwide, with $8.8 million coming from domestic sales and $7.7 million from foreign sales.
Under Eli Roth’s direction, the long-awaited film version of Gearbox’s popular video game series transports viewers to the vibrant and untamed planet of Pandora, where chances to strike it rich coexist with perilous circumstances. In this all-star action adventure, a motley crew of misfits sets out to rescue a girl who has gone missing and is thought to be holding the key to incredible power.
Borderlands is currently available for pre-order on Prime Video for $24.99. Starring in the Borderlands film are Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Gina Gerstein, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Cate Blanchett. Reports state that the production issues for the Borderlands movie started as soon as the movie was being filmed. There were reportedly a lot of reshoots and writing revisions throughout filming. The film was originally slated for a mature rating, but it was altered in the middle to appeal to younger viewers.
