The year 2022 has not been good for Bollywood movies. Few movies from the industry like Brahmastra, Drishyam 2, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 could actually do good business at the box office. The Boycott Bollywood hashtag is still trendy and it is Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback movie ‘Pathaan’ that is being targeted now.
Fans are excited to witness the coming back of the superstar back on the big screen after so long. Shah Rukh’s last movie ‘Zero’ came in 2018 and it was not a success. But ‘Pathaan’ has to now face the hatred of the boycott-Bollywood gang that has again come back in form to diminish all chances of success for the film. The fan base of the actor is huge and there is little chance that the campaign will be successful. Yet, it is not that fans are frustrated because there is too much saturation in remakes and there is no original story. Drishyam 2 was a success despite being a remake and ‘Pathaan’ is a completely original story.
The first song from the movie ‘Besharam Rang’ was released recently and it is drawing controversy as well as huge views on Youtube. There are very lame metaphors used by the trollers like the actress is wearing a dress in saffron, which happens to be a pious color for the Hindus, and the name of the song is ‘Besharam Rang’, which they think to be a very subtle indication. Also, the dance moves and clothing used in the video of the song are being cited as ‘vulgar’ and hurtful to Indian culture.
When the movie Pushpa was released, the video of its song ‘Oo Antava’ could have been considered an erotic one, but it was not labeled by the boycott gang as a vulgar one. There is too much hatred for the Bollywood industry till now and some people overlook the industry’s potential to actually produce good films. Many good Hindi films like ‘Vikram Vedha’, ‘An Action Hero’ suffer due to this hatred.
The whole nation waits for the superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback and this trolling and boycott campaign will not hopefully have any affect on the success of such a highly anticipated movie.
