Brahmastra & Shamshera: Will They Change Ranbir’s Career Forever?

From commencing his acting voyage in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya to giving Bollywood its first-ever cinematic universe, the Astraverse, Ranbir Kapoor emerged as a heartthrob with exceptional talent. Despite Saawariya’s box office failure, he continued his journey and gave some big hits like Bachna Ae Haseeno, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Rajneeti, Rockstar, Barfi, and many more. Plus, he became quite a sensation in Bollywood after doing Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani with his close pal and director Ayan Mukerji. Now, his upcoming collaboration with Mukerji, Brahmastra, and the much-anticipated Yash Raj project, Shamshera, will hit the theatres this year. No doubt that the actor’s career heavily relies on both these movies.

It seemed like Ranbir Kapoor’s career caught the evil eye after YJHD. His involvement in the unholy trinity of horrendous films: Besharam, Roy, and Bombay Velvet, nearly ended up suffocating his Bollywood journey. The terrible box office performances and critical receptions of these movies resulted in the disappointing financial results of Tamasha and Jagga Jasoos. Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil gave some comfort to the actor after suffering from a long time of box office disasters. Then came Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju, giving Kapoor a chance to start his second innings in Bollywood.

YRF has already faced a heavy loss with Samrat Prithviraj’s release. That’s why the studio executives have high hopes for its forthcoming period drama, Shamshera. The makers have dropped its teaser, showing Ranbir Kapoor in a fiery and valourous avatar. Plus, it has Sanjay Dutt playing the character of a cruel cop. Another thing that makes this project exciting is Kapoor’s double role. Also, it has Agneepath fame, Karan Malhotra, as its helmer. All these things can aid Shamshera in reigning supreme at the box office.

As for Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, Dharma Productions and Star Studios are leaving no stone unturned in its promotion. It will serve as the first part of a planned fantasy adventure trilogy. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, stars like Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy, and many more are a part of this project.

Both Brahmastra and Shamshera can solidify Ranbir Kapoor’s place in Bollywood. Also, they may help the actor in getting rid of the ‘romantic or comic hero’ image in the industry. These upcoming outings are perfect platforms for him to prove his acting versatility to the audience. However, they may bury his career for good if they fail to perform well.

Ranbir has carried the image of a romantic hero since the start of his film career. And the time has come for him to get out of that category. In addition to Brahmastra and Shamshera, the actor is also busy filming an untitled Luv Ranjan film and Animal with Kabir Singh fame, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, at the helm. Stay tuned for more updates.
