The dynamic between Eloise and Penelope will take center stage in the upcoming Bridgerton Season 3. The show’s stars Claudia Jessie (Eloise, fifth Bridgerton child) and Nicola Coughlan (Penelope Featherington) have teased the growing “tension” between the characters in the third season.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Jessie and Coughlan confirmed that the aftereffects of the broken friendship between Eloise and Penelope would not be pretty in Season 3. We know that their friendship shattered in Season 2 after Eloise discovered Penelope’s other identity, Lady Whistledown.
“They didn’t make up off-camera,” said Jessie. “I think the level of the betrayal is quite large so I don’t think it’s going to be made up quickly, however, it’s probably quite good.”
Coughlan believes that Eloise will be very upset with Penelope in Season 3. And Jessie believes that this scenario will benefit her character in the show. One of Bridgerton’s executive producers, Shonda Rhimes, has confirmed that their friendship would be crucial to Season 3 in terms of storyline. The rising tension between the duo partly results from Eloise’s protective nature of her brother, Colin (the third Bridgerton son, played by Luke Newton).
Based on the above-mentioned statement, it seems like the pair will take a long time before making amends.
In addition, Eloise broke all ties with Theo (played by Calam Lynch) in Season 2. However, the former may try to win back Theo’s friendship in Bridgerton Season 3. Moreover, the forthcoming season will explore the bond between Colin and Penelope. They want to be with each other. And this scenario will make Eloise angrier than before.
Bridgerton Season 3 will adapt the fourth novel in Julia Quinn’s series, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. The novel revolves around Penelope Featherington, who tries to get over her crush on Colin Bridgerton. Colin apparently declined to court Penelope in front of his friends in the last season, breaking the latter’s heart into a million pieces. Let’s see how their relationship moves forward in the next season. Part 1 of Season 3 will premiere on May 16, 2024, and Part 2 will arrive on Netflix on June 13. Stay tuned for more updates.
