With less than two weeks to go, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Rajakrishnan, the director and sound designer, respectively, behind the highly anticipated direct-to-OTT release, ‘Bro Daddy‘, completed the final mix, a few hours ago. This film is only Prithviraj’s second directorial, but after his first became the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time, it is safe to say that the “stakes” for this film are quite high. In fact, we believe this movie could easily be the biggest direct-to-OTT released Malayalam film.
Biggest in what way, many will ask. Well, it is not in the budget – which is still pretty big. But big, in the sense, the number of big-name filmmakers and actors that are attached to this project. The first one is obviously, Mohanlal. While this is not the megastar’s first direct-to-OTT release,
(the first one was ‘Drishyam 2’), it will be his first one on Disney+ Hotstar. He is joined by Antony Perumbavoor, the film producer who has been producing only Mohanlal films since the year 2000.
But the biggest reason for this film to be considered the biggest Malayalam movie to release on an OTT platform is the aforementioned Prithviraj Sukumaran. He will be directing and leading the film alongside Mohanlal. While Prithviraj being the film’s director is obviously a huge thing, his involvement as the cast is the bigger deal. No other direct-to-OTT released Malayalam film has had two huge stars like Mohanlal and Prithviraj lead a film before. While there have been many successful direct-to-OTT released Mollywood films and many among them with brilliant co-leads – none were as big as the above-mentioned duo. This is all one of the reasons why this film is highly anticipated by Malayalam subscribers. The film also has a highly talented cast of superstars supporting the duo as well, further adding to the hype.
‘Bro Daddy’ will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on Republic Day, on 26th January 2022.
