Renowned filmmaker Atanu Ghosh once again delves into the complexities of humanconnections with his latest cinematic masterpiece in the Bengali Film Industry, ‘Shesh Pata’. Ghosh, a rightful recipient of the National Award, showcases his excellence in storytelling through this soul stirring exploration of pipe dreams, featuring classy performances by Prosenjit Chatterjee, Gargee Roychowdhury, Vikram Chatterjee, and Rayati Bhattacharya.
In this beautiful Bangla film, Ghosh delicately weaves the story of Balmiki, a once famous writer now living in solitude and obscurity at the age of 58. Assigned with the task of writing about his murdered wife by a publication company, he is unable to write even a single page. The plot grows as the publication company makes use of the services of Sounak, a young debt recovery agent, to retrieve the stories and in the process, unwinds a fascinating tale of emotions and mystery. It is worth noting that, with movies like this it is safe to say that the Bangla film industry is connecting back to its roots, which is exploring the intricacies of humans and their surroundings. Continuous pumping of commercial films have in some way, tainted the true essence of the Bangla industry, but Shesh Pata does a great job at
reminding people of its true beauty.
Since its release, Shesh Pata has gathered widespread critical acclaim, making it an obvious entry for the 19th New York Indian Film Festival on May 12, 2024. It has received 2 nominations, with Prosenjit Chatterjee selected for Best Actor and Atanu Ghosh for Best Director. Additionally, the film is featured in the Best of Pan Indian Cinema Category at the Habitat Film Festival.
Ghosh himself has taken to social media expressing his gratitude to the viewers, and while he himself as requested to watch the movie in theatres rather than OTT platforms, we are here to let you know that if you’ve missed out on the big screen experience, definitely do not
let that come in the way, as it will be coming out on Zee5 on March 8th.
