Janhvi Kapoor’s next film ‘Good Luck Jerry’ is all geared up to start streaming on the Disney+ Hotstar OTT platform from 29th July onwards. The film is a Hindi remake of Nelson’s 2018 critically acclaimed dark comedy crime movie ‘Kolamaavu Kokila’. So, the obvious question is: Can ‘Good Luck Jerry’ live up to the standards set by the parent Tamil film? We think the remake has some serious potential to strike the right chords with OTT audiences and here are three reasons why it can match the parent film’s acclaim.
Capable Director
While ‘Kolamaavu Kokila’ was the directorial debut for Nelson (Doctor, Beast), ‘Good Luck Jerry’ on the other hand has been helmed by Siddharth Sen Gupta. Does the name ring a bell? He is an experienced small screen director who is associated with some recent web series including Netflix’s gripping romantic thriller ‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein’ (Director), SonyLIV’s crime thriller ‘Undekhi’ (Creator), and Ekta Kapoor’s action thriller show ‘Apharan’ (Creator/Director). So, considering his OTT track record, it seems that ‘Good Luck Jerry’ has a bright chance in the capable hands of Siddharth Sen Gupta.
Talented Cast
Although she hasn’t done a lot of films and despite being at the receiving end of the nepotism debate, Janhvi Kapoor had proved her acting chops in the Netflix film ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’. From the trailer of ‘Good Luck Jerry’, it looks like the young actress has rightly gauged the lead character’s pulse. Moreover, besides Janhvi Kapoor, ‘Good Luck Jerry’ boasts of an extremely talented supporting cast that includes the likes of Deepak Dobriyal (Tanu Weds Manu, Shaurya), Mita Vashisht (Criminal Justice, Your Honor), Sushant Singh (The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Jungle), and Neeraj Sood (83, Shubh Mangal Savdhan), amongst others.
Backed by Aanand L. Rai
Good Luck Jerry’s crew is blessed with the presence of the gifted filmmaker Aanand L. Rai (Tanu Weds Manu, Raanjhanaa) as the film’s producer. With the involvement of Aanand L. Rai, the film is bound to result in some creative fireworks after it comes out on Disney+ Hotstar later this month. Before ‘Good Luck Jerry’, Aanand L. Rai has previously produced films like ‘Mukkabaaz’, ‘Tumbadd’, and ‘Haseen Dillruba’, etc.
