Lock Upp, the new reality show on ALTBalaji is creating records. In a small span of 48 hours, the show garnered 15 million views making it the most-watched reality show on Indian OTT. Before Lock Upp, even Shark Tank India became extremely popular but only among a niche audience that was interested in watching start-up ideas.
The Lock Upp on the other hand promises solely entertainment thus gathering a much more diverse audience. Normally Indian reality shows are known for being trashy and melodramatic per se. This is certainly not the case with Lock Upp where Kangana is not only hosting in her fearless avatar but her star factor is also a key reason why so many people are getting attracted towards it.
Long story short, what the Indian audience needs are a long and permanent break on the current way of Indian Reality shows. It is no wonder that they are stretched for too long and they have a certain formula. They keep a singer/dancer from a very poor financial background and showcase their staged poverty every time they are on screen. So applies to all the contestants who have a separate set of woes.
Lock Upp is fresh content with a new concept. So if the Indian OTT matches up to Lock Upp if not elevates it then yes. It has the potential to start a revolution in the reality shows we usually get.
