The year 2020 has forced us into changing many thngs in our life and also proven to be a harsh way to teach us that those who do not adapt and evolve will ultimately get left behind. This stands true for every industry and the OTT platforms are trying their best to push the envelope when it comes to creating new and exciting content.
Metacinema is a very scintillating concept and it attempts at blurring the lines between what is fiction and what is reality. Ak vs Ak is one of the latest grand attempts at making such experimental cinema and the buzz surrounding it has been pretty real upto this point with house swaps or even diss tracks to help market it.
The history of Metacinema is not new and has been going on since the 1960s with films like Day For Night or ‘Man with a Movie camera’ that came in 1929. While such films were greatly lauded by critics unfortunately they never received mass recognition and such films are very rarely found on any OTT platforms now a days.
The fact that Netflix has plunged into making a movie with this genre is testament to how OTT platforms are revolutionizing the content that is available to us on a regular basis. Digital platforms have invested a lot in documentaries and anthologies over the past few years and while some have received rave reviews others have been a bit dicey but that hasn’t stopped the platforms from experimenting with unique genres.
With the wave of creating new and experimental content on a regular basis we may just about see a rise in metacinema in coming times but that will still largely depend on how Netflix’s Ak vs Ak is received by the masses in general.
