On Saturday, February 17, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took legal action against Netflix regarding the release of the documentary based on Indrani Mukerjea, accused of murdering Sheena Bora. The CBI has moved an application before a special court in Mumbai in order to seek an immediate stay on the upcoming Netflix documentary series, The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth.
The application for stopping the release of the documentary series was filed by CBI through CJ Nandode, the public prosecutor. In its plea, the domestic crime investigating agency has asked the special court “to issue direction to accused and other concerned for staying/stopping the featuring of the accused persons and the persons connected with the case in the documentary by Netflix and its broadcasting on any platform till the conclusion of the ongoing trial.”
In response, CBI Special Judge SP Naik-Nimbalkar has summoned key concerned parties, including Netflix Entertainment Services India, to respond to the application. The court will hear their responses on February 20.
The Sheena Bora murder case gained nationwide attention in 2012. Bora was an executive working for Mumbai Metro One (Reliance Infrastructure). She went missing on April 24, 2012. Three years later, Mumbai Police arrested Indrani Mukerjea (her mother), Shyamvar Pinturam Rai (her mother’s driver), and Sanjeev Khanna (her mother’s former husband).
Bora was Indrani’s daughter from the latter’s relationship with Siddhartha Das. The victim was allegedly abducted and killed by all the accused mentioned above. Her burnt body was discovered in a forest near the Raigad district.
The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth documentary series will premiere on Netflix on February 23. Containing new revelations, the forthcoming docuseries will dig deep into the disappearance of Sheena Bora and the horrifying aftermath. Stay tuned for more updates.
