Legendary comic book writer Stan Lee would have turned 99 this 28th December. He is the man behind globally popular co-creations such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Black Widow, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Daredevil, etc. Another interesting character created by Stan Lee along with Sharad Devarajan (CEO of Liquid Comics) and Gotham Chopra (son of famous author Deepak Chopra) was the Indian superhero Chakra: The Invincible.
To celebrate Stan Lee’s 99th birth anniversary, a Chakraverse limited edition NFT collection based on Chakra: The Invincible is reportedly (via Deadline) slated to be unveiled in December itself. This special collection will comprise 7000 art pieces based on the characters from the underappreciated Indian superhero – Chakra.
For the unversed, NFTs, which stand for non-fungible tokens, are cryptographic tokens (a digital asset) that are used to represent ownership of unique items such as art pieces, sports cards, music, and collectibles, etc. Of late, NFTs have turned out to be an efficient way of buying and selling digital artworks. In this case, it’s the Chakraverse art pieces.
So, NFTs based on Indian superhero Chakra: The Invincible dropping this month is a big thing, more particularly for Indian audiences and superhero aficionados. Moreover, it further reinstates our hopes about the prospect of an international standalone movie being made based on Chakra: The Invincible.
Stan Lee’s first Indian superhero ‘Chakra’ was originally portrayed as a Mumbai-based young boy named Raju Rai, who is given an advanced technological suit by his mentor scientist. A suit that is able to weaponize all mystical chakras in the human body. The boy uses his newly found superpowers to defend his city from super-villains.
In the year 2016, Stan Lee had expressed an interest to make a live-action superhero film on ‘Chakra’ in collaboration with Phantom Films, which was owned by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl, and Madhu Mantena. But the project eventually got shelved.
After the critical & commercial success of another Asian-origin superhero story ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ and considering the Indian box-office potential for Marvel-based movies like ‘Avenger: Infinity War’ and now ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, it’s high time to revive the ambitious project for a big-budget live-action Indian-origin superhero movie ‘Chakra’, which has all the ingredients to become a blockbuster.
