The first look for Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila has been released. The movie is named ‘Chamkila’ and is directed by Imtiaz Ali for Netflix India. The musical pair of A. R. Rahman and Imtiaz Ali are coming together for this film again after a long gap.
Diljit Dosanjh plays the lead role and Parineeti Chopra plays the role of Chamkila’s wife. Amar Singh Chamkila was the highest record selling artist of Punjab and had a huge fan following. He died at the age of only 27 seven, when he and his wife were attacked by assassins and shot on the road. The mystery of his murder is still unresolved. But his songs continue to amaze fans. There is no doubt that this movie will find a huge audience in Punjab. The first look is quite impressive and it shows Chamkila going for a show in some village area. Dijit looks promising as Chamkila and the music of the teaser is, obviously, catchy. Mohit Chauhan will have songs in a movie after so long. And What could have been better than it being an Imtiaz Ali movie.
There were some legal problems that the makers were going through. Producer Gurdev Singh Randhawa’s sons filed a complaint in the local court that the rights to the biopic were actually given to them. Reliance Entertainment and the makers had to appear in the court for the case and it looks like the issue is over now. Fans of Imtiaz Ali are excited to have a film from him after so long. It will be a grand musical with A. R Rahman’s music, Irshad Kamil’s lyrics and songs from the likes of Mohit Chauhan and more. The film will be released Next year.
