It was really tough to choose one from these many great movies for each category in the 95th Oscars. Many records were made and many were broken. Here is an analysis of the most awarded films in the 2023 Academy Awards.
‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ bagged the most number of awards. It was nominated for 11 awards and won 7. Among seven, it had three for acting: best actress, best supporting actor and best supporting actress. The movie is the third movie to win three acting Oscars after A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) and Network (1976). Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert won the prize for the best director and the movie got the prestigious ‘Best Picture’ award as well. Previously films like ‘Schindler’s List’, ‘Shakespeare In Love’, ‘Gravity’ had the honor of winning 7 Oscars in one award ceremony. There were films like ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ or ‘Titanic’ which went on to win as many as 11 Academy awards. But the win of ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ is historic. Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian actress to win an Academy Award with this. Ke Huy Quan also was the first Asian to win in his category. Daniel Kwan became the fourth director to win an Oscar as an Asian. The film also went on to winning the awards for best original screenplay and best film editing.
‘All Quiet On The Western Front’ became the second most awarded movie of this year’s Oscars. It is quite a big achievement for a non-Hollywood film. It won the ‘Best International Feature Film’ award and three others for cinematography, original score and production design. The German film is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque. The film was nominated in a total of 9 categories.
Darren Aronofsky’s ‘The Whale’ got two most deserving Academy Awards, that are for the best actor and for the best make-up and hairstyling. Brendan Fraser finally has his dream come true moment after he won the most prestigious Academy Award For The Best Actor.
James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ won the award for the best Visual Effects and it was undoubtedly the best of the year in the category.
Sarah Polley won the award for the best adapted screenplay for ‘Women Talking’ and ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ became the one to win it for Best costume designing. Ruth E. Carter got the award for best costume designing in 2018 for the first Black Panther movie. ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ won for Best Sound out of 5 nominations.
A24 becomes the first studio to win in every major category of the Oscars as it produced both ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ and ‘The Whale’.
