The highly anticipated sequel to Aardman Animations’ original Chicken Run animated feature (2001), Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, will arrive on Netflix in December.
Netflix hosted the world premiere of Nimona at this week’s Annecy International Animation Festival. It offered a sneak peek of Chicken Run’s sequel. In a new clip released at the festival, HBO’s The Last of Us fame, Bella Ramsey voiced Molly, the daughter of Rocky (voiced by Zachary Levi) and Ginger (voiced by Thandiwe Newton). Molly is one of those chickens who get captured and transported in a truck to a new farm that looks like a fortress. This scenario forces Ginger and Rocky to devise a plan to save their daughter. Film’s producer Leyla Hobart, helmer Sam Fell (The Tale of Despereaux), and one of the executive producers and Aardman’s co-founder, Peter Lord, led the presentation at the event.
Chicken Run (2000) was a huge financial and critical success. During its theatrical run, it earned over $227 million at the global box office. Regarding critical reception, it currently stands at a rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 173 reviews).
Apart from the leading trio, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget stars Imelda Staunton, Lynn Ferguson, David Bradley, Jane Horrocks, Daniel Mays, and more. Harry Gregson-Williams has provided his musical score for the sequel.
The film is produced by Aardman Animation, Pathe, and StudioCanal, with distribution duties handled by Netflix.
Adam Sandler’s Leo is also one of Netflix’s upcoming projects that will release on the streaming platform this fall. It will be an animated musical comedy focusing on the titular character’s life. This 74-year-old lizard is also a class pet. In addition, the streaming giant’s presentation also revealed the release date of The Monkey King, directed by Anthony Stacchi (The Boxtrolls). It will come out on August 18.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will arrive on Netflix on December 15. Stay tuned for more updates.
