Christian Bale is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors in Hollywood. He has starred in numerous hit films. However, The Dark Knight fame has also worked in some terrible flicks. One of those flicks is Exodus: Gods and Kings, which is currently streaming on Netflix.
Helmed by the great Ridley Scott, Exodus: Gods and Kings is inspired by the Exodus of the Hebrews led by Moses. This biblical event has also been mentioned in The Book of Exodus, the second religious book of the Bible. Christian Bale plays Moses in the film. Alongside him, we see Joel Edgerton (Ramses II), John Turturro (Seti I), Aaron Paul (Joshua), Ben Mendelsohn (Viceroy Hegep), Sigourney Weaver (Tuya), and Ben Kingsley (Nun).
Exodus: Gods and Kings has found a new life on Netflix. Recently added to the platform, the biblical epic drama has reached the fourth spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 list (Film), with over 7.4 million views and more than 18.6 million viewing hours under its belt so far.
However, the critical reception towards the Ridley Scott directional was not positive back when it came out in 2014. The film has a ‘rotten’ score of 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 200 reviews. On Metacritic, it scored 52 out of 100, based on 42 reviews.
Apart from being a critical failure, Exodus: Gods and Kings was also a financial bomb, earning only $268.2 million globally against its heavy budget of $200 million. Additionally, it generated a lot of controversy due to its historical inaccuracies and Caucasian cast. It was criticised for whitewashing its cast.
Christian Bale’s Exodus: Gods and Kings is now available on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates.
