The Hot Zone: Anthrax fame James D’Arcy (also in Dunkirk, Homeland and Avengers Endgame) and Michael Angarano of This is Us fame have joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The cast announced for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has been reminding us of Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up off-late.
D’Arcy and Angarano join an already stacked ensemble cast led by Cillian Murphy. Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek and Benny Safdie are the other big names who have been roped in for this big event film. Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Dylan Arnold, David Krumholtz, Alden Ehrenreich, David Dastmalchian and Jason Clarke have also joined the cast.
Oppenheimer is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and late Martin J. Sherwin. Cillian Murphy plays the theoretical physicist whose work on the Manhattan Project led to the invention of the atomic bomb, thereby crediting him with the tag of “father of the atomic bomb”. The film takes on the paradoxical life of an eminent scientist who risked destroying the world amidst world War II in order to save it.
This upcoming biographical thriller is written by Christopher Nolan himself, who also co-produces alongside Emma Thomas and Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven. This is also James D’Arcy and Christopher Nolan’s reunion after Dunkirk (2017). Michael Angarano is riding high post his Emmy Nomination for This is Us. However, details about the characters D’Arcy and Angarano are playing have been kept under wraps.
The film is slated to debut in theaters on July 21, 2023. The film is theatrically released by Universal Pictures thereby making Oppenheimer Nolan’s first film not to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures since Memento (2000).
