‘Chumbak’ On SonyLIV: A Story That Touches Heart

SonyLIV has dropped the trailer for a 2018 Marathi film ‘Chumbak’ premiering exclusively on the platform. Presented by Akshay Kumar, ‘Chumbak’ is a coming-of-age story directed by Sandeep Modi (‘Aarya’) and will premiere exclusively on SonyLIV on 12th November, 2021.

The trailer for ‘Chumbak’ begins with two teenage migrants in Mumbai, Baalu (Saahil Jadhav) and Disco (Sangram Desai), talking about future ventures where Disco suggests Baalu to open a restaurant but Baalu has some bigger plans in mind.

To transform his miserable life into one that he dreams of, Baalu plans to con people through a financial fraud wherein he messages random strangers that they have won a lottery worth ₹ 1 crore and in order to claim the amount they need to pay ₹20,000 processing fee.

And to his luck he is able to get his first victim in the form of a 45 year old dimwit Prasanna Thombare (Swanand Kirkire). They take the money from him in cash and gold but Prasanna soon discovers he has been conned and robbed and demands his money and gold chain back.

But these two boys don’t have the money to pay him back instead Baalu happens take on a new journey with Prasanna. To get back his chain Baalu tells him to steal like it was stolen from him but the simple man’s reply hits hard when he says that if everyone starts doing the same, whole world would turn into thieves. But for Baalu it’s not stealing, it’s survival and isn’t that the reality of this world!

Their journey brings its own charms and challenges and to figure out who saved whom from whom gets blurry. The trailer gives a very heartwarming glimpse of an honest slice-of-life film. It shows how realities of our world mean different for people from different walks of life. It’s about making the hard choice between your morals, empathy, innocence and your dreams. ‘Chumbak’ is one of those quality films that will touch your heart.

Swanand Kirkire, Saahil Jadhav and Sangram Desai star in pivotal roles in ‘Chumbak’ directed by Sandeep Modi. Modi has co-written the story and screenplay for the Marathi film along with Saurabh Bhave.

Chumbak’ had its world premiere at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2017 and it impressed Akshay Kumar so much so that he became its presenter, making his debut as one in Marathi cinema. ‘Chumbak’ is produced by Aruna Bhatia, Naren Kumar and Cape of Good Films.
