Varun Dhawan continues to push himself to the limits by taking roles out of his usual comedic zone. However Dhawan fails to leave a mark each time he gets to do something new.
In his most recent appearance, Varun finds himself in the world of Citadel aligning himself with Samantha Ruth. Citadel : Honey Bunny was anticipated to be Varun’s career highlight but hasn’t really been like that. In fact, Samantha kind of overshadowed Varun in most of the scenes.
Although Dhawan is capable of portraying the same cold blooded character in a better way, he couldn’t stand out in Samantha’s presence because his dialogue delivery lacks the intensity that the show demands.
Given the plot and genre of the series, Varun could have made far more efforts than he has playing Bunny. The amount of adrenaline, action, thrill, drama and dialogue delivery which a viewer wants was not really fulfilled by Varun throughout the series.
The character arc Varun portrays promises to have a bold personality and impeccable screen presence. However Samantha takes the charge in this one outperforming Varun in terms of a memorable performance driven by a bold look which can be clearly seen.
Which was seen as a huge boost for Varun’s career, Citadel : Honey Bunny seems to be underwhelming if you are a Varun Dhawan fan. The Bollywood’s Bhediya has previously done some exceptional work in October, Badlapur showing that he has the intensity.
However that intensity was not seen during his appearance as Bunny. It will be a difficult task for Dhawan to uplift his performance in the upcoming action thriller Baby John as fans were expecting a more thrilling side from the actor in Citadel. With such an underwhelming performance, it would take a lot for Varun to turn around the critics on his favor with Baby John.
