A24 producers are definitely having a blast in their office, a ‘The first time was so nice I had to do it twice’ moment indeed as their film, “Civil War,” is bombing the box office, and that too with ease.
“Civil War” was not only the first A24 film to top the box office charts, but on the second week, it broke its own record and now is standing triumphantly at the number one spot, and that too with a low $11.1M. But that was enough to make it the fifth highest-grossing film of A24, and that too in less than two weeks.
“Civil War” was followed by “Abigail,” a new entry to the list, but it wasn’t enough to stop “Civil War.” Though in terms of experience, it isn’t a strong horror, just 6.4 on IMDb, the stats show that horror is still very relevant for the industry. With $10.2M on the board, they are looking strong, and if “Civil War” slows down next week, they will stand strong.
Then comes “Godzilla X Kong,” which has been having a strong box office run for weeks now and can be the most successful film of the Monsterverse really quickly. With $9.5M, the market is really strong for the film, but it is now being hunted down by the newcomer “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” The Henry Cavill film is getting really optimistic reviews from the audience, and with $9M, might go strong in the upcoming weeks.
The anime fanbase is really strong in the USA, and the box office run of “Spy × Family Code: White” proves that. With practically no advertisement, the film grossed $4.9M, but the reign of animation is far from over, as “Kung Fu Panda 4” is still relevant. $4.6M is in the weekend and is showing no excuse to slow down.
“Dune 2” and “Monkey Man” are in the eighth and ninth spots, and that too with numbers like $2.9M and $2.2M. Both films are slowly dying down, but “Dune” does manage to pull off a box office wonder. Timothée Chalamet is definitely the new hit machine.
