The much anticipated second season of the Jennifer Winget starrer mystery thriller series ‘Code M’, created by Ekta Kapoor, is all set to start streaming on Voot Select from 9th June onwards. While the show’s first season came out in January 2020 on the Alt Balaji and Zee5 OTT platforms.
The show’s premise (Season-1) revolved around an upright Indian Army lawyer Major Monica Mehra (Jennifer Winget), who is assigned a sensitive military encounter case. While pursuing the investigation, she finds herself in the middle of a conspiracy and realizes that there is more to the seemingly open-and-shut case than meets the eye.
There is one interesting fact about the show ‘Code M’ which has largely remained unnoticed by OTT audiences. You might not be aware of an important connection between ‘Code M’ series and the widely admired 2008 courtroom drama movie ‘Shaurya’ starring Rahul Bose and Kay Kay Menon in the lead roles.
‘Shaurya’ was helmed by the talented filmmaker Samar Khan, who is incidentally also the creative producer for the ‘Code M’ series. It seems apparent that the makers of ‘Code M’ might have roped in Samar Khan for his valuable inputs for their show as his film ‘Shaurya’ is generally regarded as a benchmark in the military legal drama genre.
Besides ‘Code M’ and ‘Shaurya’, Samar Khan has also contributed to some other military / legal genre shows such as ‘The Verdict: State vs Nanavati’ starring Manav Kaul, ‘Illegal – Justice, Out of Order’ starring Neha Sharma and Piyush Mishra, and ‘The Test Case’ starring Nimrat Kaur.
‘Code M’ Season-2 carries forward the story arc for Jennifer Winget’s character Major Monica Mehra, who will be investigating the high-profile case of an assassination attempt on an influential politician inside an Army base. She suspects that the culprit is someone from inside the Army. Like Season-1, the second season also features Tanuj Virwani in a pivotal role. ‘Code M’ Season-2 will be streaming on Voot Select from next Thursday.
