Archie Comics-inspired CW’s Riverdale series has become one of the most popular shows in recent times. Or maybe we should thank Netflix for its gigantic fan-following. It does not matter who should we thank, but we cannot deny that the show is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon nowadays. Its global prominence has lured the makers to renew the series for the seventh time. However, a recent interview of Cole Sprouse with GQ has made fans worried about the series’ future.
Sprouse plays Jughead Jones, a social outcast turned writer, in the Riverdale series. He recently appeared in an interview with GQ and revealed that the majority of the cast wants to “wrap up the show with a bow”.
“I’m not a creative force behind [Riverdale]. I actually have no creative control,” Sprouse disclosed his working experience on the show. “We show up, receive the scripts often the day of, and we’re asked to shoot.”
It is not like Sprouse is the only star who thinks about leaving the series for good. His co-stars like Camila Mendes and KJ Apa also believe the same. The latter expressed his desire to shoot movies instead of continuing the series in a 2020 interview, “Man, I hope I can shoot movies because I don’t want to be pegged as Archie for the rest of my life”.
If we consider the present situation, we should not get surprised after hearing the announcement of Riverdale’s wrap up in near future. The upcoming seventh season may turn out to be the last instalment of the show. Season 6 is currently streaming on Netflix.
