Netflix revealed on Wednesday that Colombian James Rodríguez will have his documentary series available on the streaming service. The iconic football player’s story will be added to the streaming platform’s repertoire, telling the tale of the struggles he faced and overcame to become one of Colombia’s most beloved athletes, under the direction of Colombian filmmaker Simon Brand.
He will discuss his background and the events that have surrounded him as he attempts to win football in Europe. The documentary series, which will take an intimate and revealing look, will go through to this point unnoticed details of his life and career, including those from his time at legendary teams like Real Madrid CF and Bayern Munich, his experience at the most recent Copa América 2024, and the path ahead in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
The production is currently in the early stages of development, so the release date is unknown. This documentary series follows in the footsteps of other popular ones released by Netflix, like Formula 1: Drive to Survive, LALIGA: Beyond the Goal, Sean Eternos: Champions of America, Beckham, Ángel Di María: Break the Wall, and Neymar: Perfect Chaos.
At the age of 14, James Rodriguez made his professional football debut with Envigado in a Colombian second-division match. After that, he continued to play for the Argentine team Banfield, appearing in 42 matches and tallying five goals. During this period, he became known as the “James Bond of Banfield.”
