Finally! Jon Snow is making a return to our screens and how! It is reported that HBO is early development of a Game of Thrones live-action spin-off series centred on fan-favorite character Jon Snow. And we can’t contain our excitement! The news comes months ahead of the official release of Game of Thrones prequel series titled ‘House of the Dragon’ in the month of August.
Kit Harington is attached to reprise the role of Jon Snow according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actor is a two time Emmy nominee for his portrayal of Jon Snow- an action-hero who struggles to hold on to his family’s nobility. In the last season of the show, Jon Snow discovered his true identity as Aegon Targaryen, a potential heir to the Iron Throne. However with the finale, it was shown that he was exiled from Westeros and moved the North of the Wall to leave his old life behind. Since Game of Thrones, Harington appeared in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe epic ‘Eternals’ as a potential Eternal himself.
From a creative point of view, the project could pave way for several spin-off shows for the surviving characters from the GOT universe to reappear signalling an new direction for author George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe. This is very much akin to Disney+’s treatment of Star Wars and Marvel brand characters where spin-off series like WandaVision, Loki and Obi-Wan Kenobi worked wonders for the streamer.
This news officially clocks the seventh GOT project that is in the works in addition to upcoming ‘House of the Dragon’ prequel series. House of Dragon narrates the story of a civil war within House Targaryen and is set around 200 years prior to the events in Game of Thrones. Stay tuned.
