Yellowstone has made quite an achievement with the latest episode. The cliffhanger that was fogging the fate of John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) worked wonders for the series as it managed to rake up a staggering 16.4 million viewers across multiple platforms.
The series was being aired on multiple networks, including a CBS telecast. Back in 2022, Yellowstone touched a milestone of 15.9 million viewers, with around 12.1 million viewers being glued to their screens as the show was being televised. Back then, however, it was not being shown on CBS and had the viewership from only 7 channels.
The actual numbers, however, can be much higher, as the company that released the data has not included streaming into its calculations. The previous seasons are available to stream on Peacock, while the newer ones are available on Paramount+.
The numbers thus could grow as the new episode moves over to the streaming platform. Costner’s character was a fa favorite. However, since Costner was leaving Yellowstone, it was on everyone’s mind, “How are they going to write of Dutton?” The exit from the series was primarily because Costner is working on the Horizon film.
While for many fans the moment is one of shock, the actor himself never imagined the demise of his character in the way the series handled it. Anyways, the series did profit from the shock value; however, it might be possible that the ratins may soon dwindle after such a dramatic exit, as these moves are essentially gambles when it comes to a spike in ratings.
