Saim Sadiq’s critically acclaimed Pakistani drama, Joyland, has arrived on the BookMyShow Stream platform. The film will be available for streaming from July 4. Interested viewers have to spend Rs. 119 to pre-rent the film.
Sadiq’s feature directional debut, Joyland, revolves around the middle-class Rana family. This patriarchal family yearns for the birth of a baby boy. Peerzada, the head of the family, forces his daughter-in-law Mumtaz to quit her job after his son, Haider, gets employed at an erotic dance theater. However, things get complicated after Haider falls for Biba, a transgender dancer.
Joyland premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in May last year, becoming the first Pakistani movie to premiere at the CFF. It received spectacular reception from the critics at the event, ultimately bagging the festival’s Jury Prize. The film was initially banned in Pakistan due to its LGBTQ theme but came out in theatres nationwide in November 2022 with some minor cuts.
In December 2022, Joyland became the first Pakistani movie to get shortlisted in the category of Best International Feature Film at the 95th Oscars. It currently has a 98% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 48 reviews.
Helmed by Saim Sadiq, Joyland stars Ali Junejo, Rasti Farooq, Alina Khan, Sarwat Gilani, Sohail Sameer, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
