Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman are going to team up together for the first time. The duo are coming as the lead actors for a movie based on the novel ‘The War Of Roses’. The movie has been titled ‘The Roses’ for now and it is being directed by Jay Roach, who is also known for directing movies like ‘Bombshell’ and ‘Meet The Parents’.
The War Of Roses had one movie adaptations long ago. It was directed by the popular filmmaker Danny DeVito and starred actors like Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. ‘The War Of The Roses’ came out in 1989, eight years after the novel by Warren Adler came out. It was laden with praises ans many awards at that time.
Now, the second adaptation looks pretty promising as well, with such talented actors on board and with Tony McNamara as the screenplay writer. Tony McNamara has also worked on the highly acclaimed ‘Poor Things’ by Yorgos Lanthimos.
‘The War Of Roses’ tells the story of a seemingly happy and extremely wealthy couple. They have kids, an amazing sexual relationship and successful careers. But when the husband’s career starts to have a downfall their marriage starts to fall apart and a bitter competition starts between them. The two partners begin to quarrel over petty material things. The War Of Roses is an exquisite example of British dark comedy and it is a masterpiece of satire.
