Just yesterday, it was officially announced by the Disney+ Hotstar streaming service that Akshay Kumar’s forthcoming film titled ‘Cuttputlli’ will release on the OTT platform on 2nd September. And as promised, the eagerly anticipated trailer for ‘Cuttputlli’ has been revealed just now (attached below).
‘Cuttputlli’ trailer starts off with Kasauli’s scenic backdrop and cuts to a brutal murder of a young girl. Akshay Kumar’s cop character is brought in to investigate and he finds out that a serial killer is on the loose. He must race against time to catch the killer in order to prevent another murder from happening. The trailer is well-cut, and the production values are up to the mark. Akshay Kumar looks sincere in the part.
You might already be aware that ‘Cuttputlli’ is a Hindi remake of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Tamil language psychological crime thriller movie ‘Ratsasan’, which came out in the year 2018.
The parent film ‘Ratsasan’ follows an aspiring filmmaker turned police officer (played by Vishnu Vishal) and he sets out to track a serial killer, who targets teenage girls and murders them brutally. The film was praised for its engaging screenplay and was adeptly executed by director Ram Kumar. It’s easily one of the best serial killer thrillers made by an Indian filmmaker. Interestingly, ‘Ratsasan’ is also streaming on OTT on Disney+ Hotstar.
Before the Hindi remake of ‘Ratsasan’, a Telugu remake titled ‘Rakshasudu’ was released in 2019. The remake received positive feedback from audiences and critics. But it’s currently not streaming anywhere on Indian OTT.
On the other hand, ‘Cuttputlli’ has been helmed by Ranjit M Tewari, who has previously collaborated with Akshay Kumar in last year’s spy thriller ‘Bell Bottom’. Before that, he had directed the prison drama ‘Lucknow Central’ starring Farhan Akhtar in the lead role. Let’s see how the film is received by OTT audiences after its release on the Disney+ Hotstar streaming platform.
