While attending the International Film Festival of India in Goa, Rana Daggubati shared some insights on his upcoming Netflix original series ‘Rana Naidu’ and various other topics like the acceptance of Indian regional cinemas to the global audience.
‘Rana Naidu’ is the official remake of a U.S action drama series Ray Donovan that has received huge love from audiences. Rana Daggubati plays the lead character or the Hindi version of Ray Donovan who is actually a fixer who cleans up messes for celebrities and Bollywood stars. In Rana Naidu, Daggubati will share screen with uncle Venkatesh Daggubati for the first time. It has Surveen Chawla, Zessica Jarrison, Gaurav Pillai in the cast and it is directed by Katan Anshuman and Suparn Verma of ‘Inside Edge’ and ‘Mirzapur’ fame.
The actor has said that he has always wanted to understand and be a part of this format of storytelling. As times are changing, it is no longer necessary to do 2 or 3 films per year to have a successful career or to stay relevant. He further states that putting 6 years into the Baahubali duology and being a part of the history it created was something that changed his viewpoints. South Indian industries are still relying on films when Bollywood is shifting towards the digital entertainmemt medium slowly and steadily and Rana hopes this too will change.
The actor, who has played important roles in the major industries of India is hopeful of an ambitious crossover between the industries, like Hindi film producers are producing content in the regional languages or South Indian actors are acting in Hindi movies frequently. He talks about how the new ‘Pan Indian’ films are rising and ‘RRR’, ‘K.G.F’ or ‘Kantara’ are creating an ‘Indian Moment’ for the audience and hopes that this will blur the barrier between the various film industries in India.
