Star Wars fame Daisy Ridley has shared some intriguing details about her upcoming collaboration with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The English actress was last seen as Rey Skywalker in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
In a recent interview with Variety, Ridley discussed her forthcoming Star Wars film in detail. The actress praised Obaid-Chinoy for coming up with an “amazing” story for her next Lucasfilm project.
“I’m excited to do the job, but not because Sharmeen is a woman,” she said. “Her documentaries are amazing. Her idea for the story is cool as sh**. No spoilers, but she gave me a rundown of the entire story. If it weren’t amazing, I would have been like, ‘OK, call me in five years.’ But it’s worthwhile.”
Details about the film’s plot are being kept under wraps by Disney and Lucasfilm. However, many reports have revealed that this movie could lay the foundation for future Rey-centric Star Wars films. In addition, Daisy Ridley is expected to receive a fat check from Lucasfilm for her role in the film.
Daisy Ridley made her Star Wars debut in Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015). The seventh episode grossed over $2 billion globally, inspiring both Disney and Lucasfilm to greenlight Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. However, TLJ faced the fanbase’s wrath for several controversial plotlines, including Rey’s true parentage. The final entry to the sequel trilogy, Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, was poorly received by critics and fans. Among all the actors and actresses in the sequel trilogy, Daisy Ridley was the one who received the most hate from fans. Her characterisation throughout the entire sequel trilogy is controversial and confusing (at some times). Her upcoming collaboration with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy may help reduce the hatred for Rey in the hearts of Star Wars fans. It all depends on how well the story turns out in the film.
The production of Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars film is scheduled to commence in April 2024. It means we may get the film next year in theatres. Stay tuned for more updates.
