From being one of the most promising Star Wars characters (The Force Awakens) to becoming one of the most hated characters (Rise of Skywalker), Daisy Ridley has seen it all. After all this time, Ridley deserves credit for the way she handled the character. She did her best, but ultimately it was the writing that made Rey Skywalker a divisive figure in the galaxy far, far away. Despite all the hate towards her, Ridley will reprise the character in her upcoming collaboration with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Ridley’s new Star Wars project has the daunting task of differentiating itself from The Skywalker Saga. Will it be able to stay away from The Skywalker Saga? Or will it become ‘Episode X’?
To propel the Star Wars franchise into a fresh era while honoring the conclusion of the Skywalker saga, Disney and Lucasfilm need to ensure Ridley’s Star Wars film significantly departs from previous entries. For instance, ‘The Force Awakens’ has received criticism from fans and critics for repeating the storyline of ‘The New Hope’. The new Star Wars movie should not do this. It should stand on its own. It should have its own unique tone, style and atmosphere instead of becoming another derivative product from The Skywalker Saga.
This approach could also inspire other upcoming Star Wars movies, such as Jon Favreau’s Mandalorian and Grogu, the untitled Dave Filoni film, James Mangold’s movie which will take place 25,000 years before the events of Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Donald Glover’s Lando, and the untitled Shawn Levy movie. All these movies, along with the forthcoming Daisy Ridley starrer, have a fantastic opportunity to do something unique and great. They are expected to explore the vast universe with new heroes and villains, new locations, and new adventures. Stay tuned for more updates.
