Luca Guadagnino’s most personal film to date, “Queer,” an adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ novel, made its competitive Venice Film Festival debut on Tuesday. The director has been dreaming of creating this work of art for a long time.
A younger man named Allerton, played by Outer Banks star Drew Starkey, sparks the romantic interest of the American expat Daniel Craig (the former James Bond actor) in the upcoming movie, set in 1950s Mexico City.
Based on the 1985 novel of the same name, tells the tale of American expat Lee (Craig), who spends most of his days by himself except for a few brief encounters with other residents of the little American enclave. His first inkling that he could finally be able to build a close relationship with someone comes from his meeting with young student Eugene Allerton (Starkey).
In the first official clip from the film, Craig can be seen trying to impress Starkey with his quirky dance moves. His excitement is soon snatched as he sees a girl approaching the young star which ultimately leads to Craig’s frustrating exit from the scene.
