The Netflix series ‘Daredevil’ starring Charlie Murdock as the blind lawyer and masked vigilante has a special place in the hearts of Marvel fans. The first season of ‘Daredevil’ came out in 2015 and received a fantastic critics’ score of 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. Season-2 (2016) saw a dip in critical acclaim, but the third season (2018) bounced back with a 97% critics’ score. And now, fans of the show are eagerly looking forward to the next installment ‘Daredevil: Born Again’.
Last month, it was revealed that ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ was getting a “creative overhaul”. So, a search for a new showrunner and new directors was on. As per the latest update, Marvel Studios has roped in Dario Scardapane as the new showrunner for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’. Previously, Dario has lent his writing skills for ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’ series, Liam Neeson’s thriller ‘Memory’, and ‘The Punisher’ series starring Jon Bernthal, amongst other projects.
Another big change for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ series is that Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have been hired to co-direct the remaining episodes of the show. Earlier, the duo had co-directed shows like ‘Loki Season-2’ and ‘Moon Knight’.
Marvel’s decision to bring in a new showrunner and new directors is interesting, considering that around less than half of the episodes of ‘Daredevil Born Again’ had already been filmed. The change of creative hands around the middle of a show’s production might be a well-thought-out and a bold move, but it’s also rather risky.
Because in case the makers incorporate all or some of the parts of the already filmed footage and try to blend in new elements with a new showrunner and new directors, there is a possibility that the final version of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ might sadly turn out to be a mish mash of sorts. And that might be a big problem. Let’s just hope that’s not the case here and that ‘Daredevil; Born Again’ will match or even surpass the legacy of its predecessor.
