We all know that Darlings is coming soon on Netflix India. The Alia Bhatt starrer is a dark comedy starring Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew in lead roles.
The film is highly buzzy on the platform and there have been significant efforts by Netflix India in promoting the film. However, let’s not compare it to what Netflix does for promoting foreign titles like The Gray Man and Stranger Things. It is as if the marketing team is a puppet in the hands of someone else who simply disregards any Indian film or series.
But whatever the case may be, Darlings is buzzy per se. The credit for this goes to the popularity of Alia Bhatt and the highly intriguing teaser and trailer.
But will the film help Netflix?
It will.
One can’t be sure how the film turns out to be after release but currently, it is only the buzz that matters. Hardly a significant number of people purchase a subscription to any OTT platform for watching any specific film.
But constant buzz along with consistently great content helps a platform gain, subscribers. Disney+Hotstar did exactly that during the COVID-19 pandemic when they were constantly releasing a plethora of films.
Thus Darlings will help Netflix give an initial push but it becomes the duty of the platform to maintain the buzz. For that, they have to be consistent with a great lineup but yet again it is vain.
They are coming up with Indian Matchmaking, Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives which help in nothing but losing subscribers.
