In a change of stance in its India strategy, streaming giant Netflix has has gotten extremely aggressive in procuring content for its subscribers from the Southern states of India. Not content with grabbing the post-theatrical streaming rights for acclaimed Malayalam films such as Jana Gana Mana, Oru Thekkan Thallu Case, Padavettu, Ariyippu and more, Netflix India has now turned its attention to Telugu films.
This morning, the deep-pocketed streaming behemoth Netflix made a stunning announcement on its social media handles. Netflix India South proclaimed that it has grabbed the post-theatrical streaming rights for a slew of buzzy Telugu films – sixteen in all – from acclaimed production houses and starring big stars.
The upcoming Telugu lineup from Netflix India includes the following –
1. Dasara – Action thriller, starring Nani and Keerthy Suresh
2. Buddy – Action drama, starring Sundeep Kishan
3. Bhola Shankar – Action film, starring Chiranjeevi
4. Shri Lakshmi Venkateswara Cinemas’ Production No. 6 – Starring M Naga Shourya
5. 18 Pages – Romantic drama, written by Sukumar, starring Nikhil and Anupama Parameswaran
6. Meter – Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, starring Kiran Abbavaram
7. Kartikeya 8 – Starring Kartikeya, produced by UV Creations
8. Dhamaka – Action drama, starring Ravi Teja, already released in theatres
9. Butta Bomma – starring Anikha Surendran, Arjun Das and Surya Vashistta, produced by Sithara Entertainments
10. Amigos – Action thriller, starring Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, Ashika Ranganath, Brahmaji, Sapthagiri
11. UV Creations’ Production No 14 – starring Anushka Shetty as an aspiring chef, along with Naveen Polishetty
12. PVT 04 – starring Panja Vaishnav Tej, produced by Sithara Entertainment
13. Tillu Square: Starring Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Anupama Parameswaran
14. VT12 – Varun Tej’s next, produced by Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra (SVCC)
15. Virupaksha – Romantic action drama, starring Sai Dharam Tej and Samyuktha Hegde
16. SSMB28 – the biggie, untitled film from Trivikram, starring Mahesh Babu and Pooja Hegde
Interestingly, all these films will premiere on Netflix in the four South languages of Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada, but not Hindi; except for SSMB28, which will also release in Hindi on Netflix India.
