In a recent interview, David Fincher has said that he will not be returning with new seasons of the celebrated thriller series ‘Mindhunter’. He points towards Netflix and says that the show was expensive enough and that the platform does not want to continue it as it did not gather much of an audience.
Netflix has been criticized previously for canceling great shows without any apparent reason. 1899 was canceled, but that is quite justifiable because it did not gather much positive responses despite being made by the directors of ‘Dark’. ‘Mindhunter’, on the other hand, is one of the most popular Netflix originals and it has a huge fandom.
David Fincher is one of the most trusted directors of this time and he has earned his fanbase with the quality of his shows. There is no doubt that if the show is renewed, it will be loved by lots of people. Fans guessed that Mindhunter is not returning for a third season because Fincher is probably too busy with his other projects. But it turns out it is actually the platform that does not want the show to go on.
Netflix has to get to the nerves of its audience and understand what they want. There is absolutely no point in canceling shows like Mindhunter and being the subject of the wrath of fans. It has happened many times before that the platform has failed to judge what actually the audience wants. If it goes one like this, soon they will start losing their subscribers.
