Hugh Jackman’s Logan, aka Wolverine, stole all the limelight in the latest Deadpool & Wolverine trailer. Apparently, the version of Wolverine we witnessed in the trailer was different from the one in Fox’s main X-Men timeline. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Jackman’s Logan let down all the people, including the X-Men. This scenario has given birth to a new fan theory.
According to the new fan theory, Jackman’s Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine belongs to a timeline where Jean Grey survived. In ‘X-Men: Last Stand’ (2006), Logan killed Jean to stop her Dark Phoenix persona from wreaking havoc on all the X-Men. Even the ‘Master of Magnetism’ himself, Magneto (Ian McKellen), couldn’t overpower her. This forced Wolverine to stab Jean with her claws, stopping her Dark Phoenix persona from causing more destruction. The combined powers of Charles Xavier’s X-Men and Magneto’s Brotherhood of Mutants failed to control Jean’s Dark Phoenix avatar. Logan was able to stop her because of his healing powers, which allowed him to withstand Phoenix’s destructive powers.
However, Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine couldn’t do the same, as per the new fan theory. He couldn’t control his love for Jean. As a result, Dark Phoenix slaughtered every mutant in that timeline except Logan, ultimately creating a world without the X-Men.
Famke Janssen portrayed Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix in Fox’s original X-Men trilogy. In her recent interview with ComicBook, the actress was asked about the odds of her return as Jean Grey in Deadpool & Wolverine. She replied: “I don’t know. I doubt it, but you never know.”
Apart from Janssen’s potential return, fans could also witness James Marsden donning Cyclops’ red visor again in the upcoming Shawn Levy project. Let’s see what happens.
Led by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Deadpool & Wolverine will arrive in theatres worldwide on July 26, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
