It has finally been announced that Princess Diaries 3 is officially in the works at Disney. A comedy-drama, the previous two movies of the series were both commercially successful. And Twitter has just one request to Disney- they want the original cast back at all costs.
Despite being another Disney movie where everything has a happy ending at the end, what made the movies so successful and popular were the main cast and their chemistry. As such, it is quite natural that the audience wants to see the old cast return for the threequel, especially Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews, and Chris Pine.
If we don't get Chris Pine as Prince Consort to Her Majesty, Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, Queen of Genovia, in Princess Diaries 3, I'm going to lose it! https://t.co/UBRjRJmuyc

if disney thinks i’m going to watch a 3rd princess diaries movie without anne hathaway or julie andrews, they have extremely underestimated where my loyalty lies

While the first movie had Hathaway and Andrews’ dynamics as one of the best parts of the movie, in the second movie, it was the newest addition to the cast- Chris Pine- who stole the show. The enemies-to-lovers arc of Hathaway’s Princess Mia and Pine’s Nicholas Devereaux was cliche, but the audience loved them and their chemistry nonetheless. While Anne Hathaway has said before that she is interested in returning as Princess Mia in another movie of the series, she has not been officially cast yet, and neither are the rest of the original cast as per reports.
So is this just another fan craze that will die away in a few days? Not this one. Without the main cast, the movie having the magic of its predecessors is doubtful. Since all the original cast members are now much bigger stars with Hathaway and Pine being Hollywood sweethearts, the pay will cost the studio dearly in just the remuneration itself. Still, it is expected that Disney will get them back.
The threequel is expected to continue the story of the previous films and is reportedly not a reboot, hence recasting is highly unlikely. The continuation of the love story featuring Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine as modern royal spouses whom the audience just can’t get enough of? That alone should get people excited and into theatres.
