Academy Award winner Guillermo Del Toro will be directing and producing another stop motion movie for Netflix. His ‘Pinocchio‘ is nominated for the Oscars this year and has won many prestigious awards so far. Fans are excited with the news of Del Toro making a one stop motion movie again.
The filmmaker has made it his purpose to promote the idea that animation is not a genre, animation is not kids movies, animation is ‘Cinema’ just like live action movies. His contribution to the stop motion industries will be of huge benefit to the art of cinema.
After Pinocchio, he will now work on Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel ‘The Buried Giant’. It will be co-written by Dennis Kelly. Stop Motion animation studio ShadowMachine will be working with the director. The studio was there at the time of Pinocchio too.
The film will tell the story of an elderly couple named Axl and Beatrice who live in a post-Arthurian England where nobody is able to retain long term memories.
Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’ was revolutionary enough and it created a massive wave in the animation industry. It challenged the monotonous and unrealistic live-action adaptations of Disney and elevated the level of storytelling beyond Pixar as well. ‘The Buried Giant’ is great news for animation fans and it will revive the animation industry by putting more life and soul to it. The Buried Giant will be another step towards establishing animation, stop-motion to be specific, as ‘Art’ and as ‘Real Cinema’.
