Denis Villeneuve’s next movie has received its release window from Warner Bros. Hailed as an “event film”, Villeneuve’s next project is scheduled to arrive in theatres worldwide on December 18, 2026. It could be Dune 3, which will serve as the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah (1969) novel. Legendary Entertainment will produce the movie, home to the director’s Dune movies.
However, Villeneuve recently announced that his next project would not be the third Dune movie. According to rumours, the filmmaker has plans to make a nuclear war film. But we don’t know for sure. Let’s see what happens.
Moreover, an untitled movie from Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise will arrive in theatres globally on March 26, 2027. Grant Sputore will helm this one, replacing Adam Wingard.
Before Inside Out 2, Dune: Part Two reigned supreme as the highest-grossing movie of 2024. Grossing over $711 million worldwide, the sequel earned rave reviews from critics. This tremendous success inspired Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. to give the go-ahead for the threequel. The returning cast likely includes Timothée Chalamet (Paul Atreides), Zendaya (Chani), Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan), Anya Taylor-Joy (Alia Atreides), and more.
Jason Momoa could also reprise his role in Dune 3 as Hayt, a Duncan Idaho ghola – a clone grown from Paul’s loyal friend’s preserved cells – created by the Tleilaxu, a secretive race known for advanced technology and genetic manipulation. Stay tuned for more updates!
