“Derry Girls” needs no introduction. This belly-chuckle buddy-comedy has been atleast in our watchlists for a long time even if we’ve not watched it. With Two seasons already down and streaming on Netflix Worldwide, UK’s Channel 4 has unveiled still and trailer for the much awaited third and final season of “Derry Girls”. The show has already became a global phenomenon on Netflix.
Created and written by Lisa McGee, “Derry Girls” is based on her own experiences growing up in Northern Ireland during the political unrests.
The series follows Erin Quinn, her cousin Orla ,their friends Clare, Michelle, and Michelle’s English cousin James navigating their teenage years during the end of the Troubles in Derry. They all attend a Catholic girls’ secondary school. The friends frequently find themselves in absurd situations and crazy adventures amidst political unrests and cultural divides of the times. Season 2 followed Derry Girls navigating their relationships and parents amidst a peace process.
“While there’s hope in the air that The Troubles may finally be over, their troubles are only just getting started as they get ever closer to ‘adulthood,’” reads a description from Channel 4. However we do not have an official release date for the third season yet. But from whatever we can see in the trailer, we can assure that fans of the show are again in for a wild, whacky and funny summer ride.
The show stars Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn in pivotal roles. Also featuring Tommy Tiernan as Erin’s father Gerry, Tara Lynne O’Neill as Erin’s mother Mary, Ian McElhinney as Granda Joe, Kathy Kiera Clarke as Aunt Sarah and Siobhan McSweeney as Sister Michael, the Headmistress of Lady Immaculate College, which the gang attends.
