Netflix’s ‘Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’ has been at the receiving end of criticism since its debut. However, all the backlash hasn’t stopped the series’ successful run on Netflix, and has been on a records-shattering spree on the platform. In a huge achievement, the crime thriller became Netflix’s second-biggest English TV show ever.
The series has topped Netflix’s English TV Top 10 list for the third week in a row and remains a very in-demand content. A related content titled ‘Conversations With a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes’, a documentary consisting of unguarded tapes showing Dahmer’s confession to his gruesome crimes is also a much-watched series on Netflix.
‘Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’ has now garnered more watch time than what the two seasons of Shonda Rhimes created ‘Bridgerton’ garnered together in the first 28 days of their respective releases. ‘Dahmer’ in the English TV segment is now surpassed in watch time on its first 28 days only by season 4 of ‘The Stranger Things’. The all-time Netflix TV leader in the first four weeks of release remains ‘Squid Game’, the South Korean surprise hit that notched 1.65 billion hours viewed in its first 28 days on the service.
It looks like the backlash the series faced had no impact whatsoever on its popularity, in fact, may have added to its popularity. After all, it’s said that whether good or bad, any publicity is good publicity. Viewers were quick to point out that the series seemed exploitative of the unfortunate victims of Dahmer, with relatives of the victims coming forward against Netflix. This was followed by criticism for the fact that Netflix categorized the series with an LGBTQ tag, something quickly removed by the streamer.
‘Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’ is a limited biographical drama television series on Netflix that explored the motive and methods of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer surrounding the murders he committed between 1978 and 1991, reportedly with few instances of fictionizing the events.
The series rose to the number-one spot on Netflix in the first week of its release. It debuted to mixed reviews, with unanimous praise for Evan Peter’s portrayal of the serial killer. The American serial killer has attracted eyeballs in India as well, with the series, even after 3 weeks upon release, keeping its place in the Top 10 TV content.
