Lots of glamour, heavy costumes, grand sets, and high drama. Both shows have one thing in common: while critics haven’t been very kind to them, regular viewers can’t seem to get enough.
But this raises an important question. Should Netflix only chase the glitter? Yes, shows like The Royals and Heeramandi are eye-catching and fun to binge. They look great and offer a kind of royal escape from daily life. Still, there’s more to India than palaces and diamonds. Many people also want stories that feel real, that show the ups and downs of everyday life in our towns and cities.
We’ve seen how shows like Black Warrant became hits by being raw and bold Indian experiences. These are the kind of shows that connect with people on a deeper level. Netflix has the power and reach to bring out these voices too.
It’s good to enjoy some sparkle now and then, but we also need stories that speak to the heart and reflect who we truly are. It’s time streaming platforms remember that India is not just a land of kings and queens, it’s also a land of real, everyday heroes.
