‘Dhananjoy‘ came out in 2017 and is directed by Arindam Sil, one of the finest filmmakers of the industry. The film was produced by Shrikant Mohta and Mahendra Soni under the banner of SVF Entertainments.
The film tells the story of Dhananjoy, a security guard who was hanged for the rape and murder of a college student. The mother of Hetal Parekh, the deceased gave statements against him and all evidence proved the allegations to be right and Dhananjoy Chatterjee was given death sentence after 14 long years of the gruesome crime.
Anirban Bhattacharya does a terrific job in the role of Dhananjoy. Mimi Chakroborty as Kavya Sinha, the advocate, Kanchan Mullick as Public prosecutor, Koushik Sen as Shibraj Choudhuri gave wonderful performances in the film. The cinematography is handled by Soumik Haldar and the music is given by the genius Bickram Ghosh.
The theme of the movie is dark and though there are many more movies based on similar subjects, ‘Dhananjoy’ is unique in terms of execution and storytelling. It is a true story and if you are a fan of courtroom dramas or the genre of true-crime, you are going to love this movie.
