In case you guys missed it (which we guess you guys did indeed; even we missed it), the Malayalam “single-shot” film, ‘Santhoshathinte Onnam Rahasyam‘ released for streaming on the OTT platform Neestream last week. The movie made its premiere online through this release and we can happily admit how good the movie was. This movie was made for OTT viewing and the film manages to keep the audience’s attention with its unique premise, realistic acting and (literally) one-of-a-kind camera work. Given how successful this film is on Neestream, one can’t help but wonder if Amazon Prime Video made a mistake in passing up on the chance to stream this film on their platform, similar to what they did to ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’.
There is no evidence suggesting that the producers of the film, ‘Santhoshathinte Onnam Rahasyam’, ever approached the OTT platform to release their movie digitally, similar to the producers of ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’. But, given the fact that most of the recent direct-to-OTT Malayalam films featuring popular (and known) Malayalam actors have been released on Amazon Prime Video, we would be surprised if the streaming giant didn’t know about the existence of this road trip drama feature.
We are quite sure that Amazon Prime Video actually knew about this movie, but didn’t want to stream it due to its unattractive features meaning lesser-known actors, first time-director, etc. This makes sense (even if it is not right) as ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ had some well-known actors in Suraj and Nimisha and a well-known film producer and the movie was still rejected. But, content is king, and ‘Santhoshathinte Onnam Rahasyam’ proves that remains true even after the movie was released on Neestream, a lesser known, regional OTT platform.
