By the end of last week’s episode of WandaVision on Disney+ Hotstar, we were reintroduced to Agnes as Agatha Harkness, a witch who seems to be manipulating Wanda. In the comics, Agatha Harkness is a very powerful witch, without any clear cut allegiances – except towards Wanda, who she mentors. Marvel Studios has been known for making good guys bad and vice versa, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Agatha Harkness turned out to be evil or has bad intentions. But she is not the big villain, we are talking about here. No, we are talking about the demon, Mephisto.
In the seventh episode, we were “re-introduced” two characters – Agatha Harkness, the witch and Monica Rambeau, the superhero. But there have been some subtle Mephisto references throughout the series, not just the last episode. The quick 666 in the Stark toaster commercial – Mephisto has introduced himself to many Marvel characters as Satan or The Devil (He also created Ghost Rider). Wanda’s kids are also a small give away that Mephisto exists in WandaVision, because in the comics, she creates her twins using Mephisto’s essence, even though she didn’t know it at the time. There is also a Devil caricature etched inside Agatha’s home; all of these clues pointing us towards the demon from Hell – Mephisto.
And if Mephisto is truly coming in the Phase 4 of MCU, we expect the villainous character to subsequently appear in the Spiderman 3: Far From Home Sequel and in Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness. This is because the demon is known to travel between timelines and dimensions and we expect the magical team and/ or the interdimensional travelling team of the Avengers (at this point, they all are) will have a hand in handling the situation. We may even see Mephisto in Thor: Love and Thunder – if Mephisto is the next main villain in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.
And also with Monica slowly gaining powers, and her being able to see various other “spectrums” of light, we think she will be part of the above mentioned superhero films; most likely as the Superhero Photon or Spectrum – both of which are the alter-egos of Monica in the comics. For now, there are still two episodes to go before WandaVision is completed, and there is plenty of story to be told.
Seven episodes of WandaVision are currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The eight episode will drop on 26th February 2021.
