The FIFA World Cup Final has ended, and what an end it was! A deserving farewell for the GOAT Messi and what a phenomenal performance by the 23-year-old Mbappe, whose back must be broken from supporting the whole of France through the game! Well, we have recently reported on how the Indian audience has a lot of gripes with Jio Cinema regarding the issues faced regarding the streaming of the matches.
From announcing that FIFA will be streaming on Voot Select to later making it available for free for Jio subscribers, the first red flag should have prepared us. Then came the buffering and frequent crashes. And to top it all off, the Ambanis-owned platform didn’t stream the telecast of the closing ceremony of the match either! And it seems the displeasure will follow the platform beyond the Twitter hashtags this time.
While Jio Cinema did let us watch the FIFA games and will let us watch the IPL auction for free, all of this may be leading to something bigger. After all, as the popular saying goes, nothing is ever free when it is from the Ambanis. It is expected that all these freebies were marketing tools to get us into the ecosystem so that we continue watching the upcoming IPL matches on the platform as well. And even bigger news? The company is reportedly looking at whether to make the platform subscription paid or not ahead of the IPL!
It is to be noted that as of now, the Jio Cinema subscription is free to anyone who has a Jio sim and can log in using an OTP.
With the series of issues being faced by the audience, forget paying for it, people would think twice before deciding whether to watch the matches on the platform even if it is for free. As a result, it seems rolling out the paid subscription packs for Jio Cinema at this point would not be a wise decision on the streamer’s part.
Having said that it is to be seen if the streamer does go ahead with the rumoured plan. Very emotional regarding our sports, they would have to make the deal a bit sweeter if they want fans to forgive and take a leap of faith this time again with Jio Cinema. With no official announcements from the streamer regarding the same, we will have to wait a bit longer to know what the streamer will come with.
Right now, the ball is in your court, Jio Cinema, what say you?
