From acquiring content to creating original shows, JioCinema has come a long way. Today, JioCinema started streaming *Cadets*, which looked promising on paper. The story is heartwarming and engaging.
Set in 1997, before the historic Kargil war, the series follows four 16-year-old boys as they enter the prestigious National Defence Academy. The show is funny and captures the transition from innocence to adulthood. If you can overlook the somewhat washed-out color palette, it could make for a fun weekend binge.
But there’s a big problem. The reviews of the show raise some red flags.
Why is that?
On the surface, the series is receiving positive reviews, but that’s precisely what’s suspicious. We’re not questioning JioCinema’s ability to create something enjoyable, but the issue lies in the reviews being too similar.
The positive feedback appears different from traditional fake reviews. These reviews come from smaller accounts, but they all sound too similar and somewhat generic.
Some accounts even mention how affordable JioCinema Premium is and how it’s worth every penny. While that’s not inherently bad, it’s suspicious considering it comes right after Reliance Group’s 47th Annual General Meeting, where it was announced that JioCinema had crossed the 15 million subscriber mark. The sudden emphasis on subscribing does seem odd.
Interestingly, though the tweets shared almost the same message, many used the phrase “breath of fresh air,” which is definitely strange. It’s a common phrase, but not everyone would use it to describe the same show.
Some tweets even had double quotations, which can be a sign of AI-generated content. While this isn’t a definitive claim, it does raise questions. Another odd detail is how many tweets actively promote the fact that JioCinema Premium costs ₹29. While this might have been exciting news a couple of months ago, it’s been more than 100 days since JioCinema launched that plan.
We’re not claiming it’s a conspiracy theory, but such coincidences do seem almost too good to be true. Some might wonder why JioCinema would buy reviews from accounts with barely any followers.
Realistically, it’s unclear whether JioCinema did anything shady or not. But even if they did, people might not care much since ₹29 is a solid price for entertainment, and they wouldn’t want to lose that luxury.
